Introducing: The Blog North Awards

After seven successful years, the Manchester Blog Awards is becoming the Blog North Awards. We’re merging with Blog North, the new blogger network we’ve organised in partnership with culture sites Creative Tourist and Culture Vultures. We will now be celebrating great blogging right across the North of England, from Liverpool to Hull. But though we’re covering a bigger area; the competition and its annual event will still be produced by Openstories as part of the Manchester Literature Festival.

This year we’ll be giving out awards in seven categories: Best Arts and Culture Blog, Best City or Neighbourhood Blog, Best Food and Drink Blog, Best Personal Blog, Best Specialist Blog, Best Writing and Young Blogger of the Year.

Nominations are now open and can be submitted through the website, Nominations close 7 September, and a shortlist will be posted in early September. Winners will be determined by combining the results of public voting with the choices of a judging panel, which will be named soon. Winners will be revealed at the 2012 Blog North Awards event, which takes place at the Deaf Institute, Manchester at 7:30pm on 17 October, 2012  and features readings from bloggers and author Adam Christopher. Tickets are available through the Manchester Literature Festival website.

Kate Feld, Manchester Blog Awards founder and director of writing organisation Openstories, says: “We couldn’t be more excited about the partnership with Blog North. There’s so much wonderful blogging happening across the region, and we’re delighted to be able to share our passion for the best independent online publishing with a new audience of bloggers and readers.”
